St Edburg's Church of England Primary in Bicester

Wednesday 1st April, 2015

In April 2015, Margaret Kunzer (Head Teacher) and Julie Cordingley (HLTA and art teacher) at St Edburg's Church of England Primary in Bicester, Oxfordshire were presented with a Peaceful Project award. This was for work over the last five years on developing inner peace through twice-yearly, week-long Prayer Spaces. Margaret said: 'The whole school of parents, staff and children have been so enthusiastic about this. We have committed time and money to this and it has had a big impact on our school. Some staff members go out and talk about it to churches and other schools. We want to continue to share what we do with others.'

Became a Beacon Peaceful School officially on 27 February 2015. The school is in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. One third of the pupils are from Army families. The school is noteworthy for its vibrant, dynamic look and feel.

Awarded Beacon Peaceful School status in December 2014! This is a large, voluntary-aided Roman Catholic primary school with a deep commitment to peace - they even have peacemaker prizes for the pupils. They undertake very impressive work with parents aiming to build relationships between ethnicities through the Unity Group; an annual Heritage fortnight to celebrate different cultures and countries and also ‘Peace One Day’ activities on the International Day of Peace on 21 Sept. The Head Teacher has a massive commitment to children’s spiritual development in a very inclusive way.

Sue Webb, the Head Teacher, was presented with the Beacon Peaceful School Certificate during the whole school, end of term assembly on 19 December 2014.There is a real feeling of peace and respect within this school. This is an accredited ‘Values-based Education’ state primary school. The Head Teacher, Sue Webb, is very committed to Values-based Education. She has worked many hours producing wonderful resources for the two year cycle of monthly values that this involves.

First Peacemaker Award!

Thursday 18th December, 2014

On 18 December 2014, Mrs Helen Floyd, the School Chaplain at Oaklands Catholic School and Sixth Form College in Waterlooville, Hampshire was presented with the Peacemaker Award Certificate for her work on reconciliation between students at the school. This is the very first such award to be made in England. Anna Lubelska, the Founder and Coordinator of the Peaceful Schools Movement presented Mrs Floyd with the Peacemaker Award Certificate.
