Basildon Lower Academy wins Beacon Peaceful School status
15th July 2024
We are delighted to announce that the Lower Academy has achieved the prestigious Beacon Peaceful School Award for its pioneering work in creating a peaceful school community.
The Peaceful Schools Awards Board was impressed by the range and depth of the school's efforts to support the wellbeing, self-determination and learning of their students. Values chosen by the students are embedded into the everyday life of the school.
Anna Lubelska (Coordinator of the Peaceful Schools Awards) recently visited the school and spoke with students throughout her tour of the school. Anna commented on how she loved that initiatives were student-led and praised the drive of the student UNICEF Ambassadors, Eco-Committee and Student Executive Team. She also commented on how unique the school is and, how it uses holistic approaches to develop students. Anna was also full of praise for the work that the Eco Committee has done to enhance the school site, which includes the recently installed sensory garden, which allows students to have some downtime and a place to relax. “That was the best pupil-led tour of a school I've ever had. The pupils were able to explain all aspects of the school as well as being courteous and cheerful. Well done to everyone at Basildon Lower Academy.” said Anna Lubelska, Peaceful Schools Founder and Coordinator
